Claressa Shields
Happy Friday
I'm sure many of you are like who's Claressa Shields? She's a force to be reckoned with. A gold medalist winning Olympian. She's our homegirl from Flint. I'm surprised that she hasn't been seen more because she's got the makings of a popular athlete. Attitude, confidence and skill to back it up. I'll let you read for yourself about her from another blog.
If you click on the link you'll be guided to one of my favorite blogs. The post today is about a forgotten gold medalist, who just like our beloved little Gabby D deserves our adulation and love. She took a road less traveled and knocked out her competition in the process. Congrats to Claressa Shields! She made history too and just isn't getting as much media attention as our other talented sis. She's bad.

Happy Women's History Month
Greetings and Salutations,
It's March so that means it's Women's History Month. Naysayers be silent. Women are the central part of all societies. Respect is to be shown. The video that follows is from one of my favorite YouTubers, Whoissugar. She lists the 10 things she feels all women should know. If you're so inclined feel free to comment below as to what YOU think all women should know. Males your input is more than welcome too.
"If you are in a country that is progressive, the woman is progressive. If you're in a country that reflects the consciousness toward the importance of education, it's because the woman is aware of the importance of education. But in every backward country you'll find the women are backward, and in every country where education is not stressed its because the women don't have education."

You Are Ruining My Life...Dating wise that is
DISCLAIMER: This post is not to for the WOMEN who are handling their business and are jointly raising their child(ren) with the father. This post is about the ones who are constantly causing me strife.
Wale said it best, “Favorite girlfriends turn into crazy baby mothers.”
I need to vent, my dating life is suffering and I do not appreciate it. I know this won’t change the behavior, but I needed to get that off my chest. It would end if folk would make better decisions about who they bed. Accidents happen, I know but with the number of CBMs running around, this is an epidemic. I understand that you two share a bond, I would never try to change that, but there are rules. Let me be clear. I would prefer and am constantly in search of the smart, attractive, employed, CHILDLESS brother. I do understand that the older I become the smaller my chances are. So until I meet him I'm seizing opportunities. I can handle you having one kid, two maybe but what I can't and won't deal with is the drama that comes with it. Fuck that, I'm a good woman, a problem solver, I add to not subtract from my guy's life. These men have slipped up and slipped in raw and now are like "WTF?! Why is she acting like this?" They can't get with a winner because she's playing defense like the 2000 Baltimore Ravens! For example, I work with the public so I meet my fair share of men. Some worth my time, most not. Today was a day where I met one that would have definitely been worth my time. I saw him before he reached my desk. He was an attractive, beautiful dark skinned, nice smile having, educated man with a nice personality. He came in and I was assisting him for a short while and him and his brother made a computer appointment for later. He comes back and has brought me lunch. Yes, lunch. Nice right? I thought so too. After speaking with him for a bit and affirming that our chemistry was on point, I took the reins and asked if he was single. His response "It's complicated, I have a son. His mother is CRAZY; we just got into on the phone. We aren't together, but I wouldn't want to drag this drama into your life." Not what I wanted to hear and I told Dark & Lovely just that. He said "I know, it sucks because I enjoy talking with you." Damn, another one bites the dust. I don't know who's more to blame? The man, because I'm sure she's been off, he just looked over it and now she's full blown nuts or her for not realizing that some relationships don't last and this baby won't make him stay. I want these CBMs to mature and realize that you and his romantic relationship is over. Move on so both of you can find happiness. I don't have children but I do know they require loads of attention. But I'm willing to wager that your child doesn't need anything at 11 pm when your former flame and his date or he and his new girl are out on the date that you knew was scheduled. That's just childish. You both deserve happiness and your antics are holding you back. I dedicate this to my fellow single, childless sisters who just want a chance with this man and can't get one because you, the CBM can't cope. You CBMs are making dating hard as hell. Imagine yourself in our positions. Not a pretty picture right? You see how it can cause us to slip up and call you out of your name. I don’t play second fiddle to other grown women just because they have attachment issues. I replace not chase. I don’t want to count out all the men who have children but they way some of you chicks are acting it is hard not to. I know that there are some great guys that have children but we won’t give them a chance because of the drama you all are hell bent on keeping up. Your games are childish, and they are causing more issues. Nothing is getting solved. You keep it up, and your child(ren) are going to suffer. It’s not about you anymore. Hell, as much as I like dating and meeting new men, it’s not even about me and the abuse my dating life is taking. It’s about that child. Get it together. All I ask is that you know your role and play your part and we'll be cool. I hope you all realize this soon, because this mess is ridiculous. I am wasting too much time dealing with you and your drama.

Augusta Savage- Feb 4

Augusta Savage was a sculptor originally from Florida who moved to Harlem during the Great Migration. Her father, a Methodist preacher was against her art calling it "pagan." Augusta didn't listen to her father, thankfully. Like many African-Americans during the Harlem Renaissance she was greeted with racism in the form of rejection by a European art school. From this her art became political. She got funding from the Julius Rosenwald Fellowship. She was commissioned to sculpt busts of W.E.B. DuBois, and Marcus Garvey. She was one of four women and the only African American woman whose art was featured at the 1939 New York World's Fair. Sadly, due to her financial situation much of her work was never casted into metal and ultimately destroyed. Augusta Savage was not only a talented sculptor, and a spirited teacher. She was an activist. She was a force to be reckoned with. She won't be forgotten.

Really?
"You ain't got no limo!" This was the sentenced yelled out in the middle of traffic last night on my way to a nightclub. It came from a gaggle of women in ONE limo, yes only one and while I'm not sure of actually how many were in there I am willing to wager that there were at least 5. This statement alone wouldn't have bothered me (besides the construction of the sentence, of course)if it hadn't been said after "That's the Black Label, I can't afford them." Really?! This is what you choose to say? You can't afford one of the hottest night spots in the city, but you and your cronies are proclaiming your hood richness for all of downtown to see in your white limo? It sounds like you've got your night life priorities out of order. You can rent a limo for the evening but can't go the club? Ladies always get in free at least until 11 and then drinks don't cost that much. This may seem like a trivial subject to discuss but I feel this is only the root of the problem. If you can't afford a full evening out, then what other parts of your life have you mismanaged? I am far from Rockefeller or Rocafella for that matter, but I do try and handle my finances so I can enjoy the little time off I do have. If I don't have the money then I stay home. See, this post isn't really about the ladies from last night, well not entirely anyway. It's dedicated to all the situations and people that I witness or hear about that make me ask "Really?" I get that everyone has their own way of doing things and that I am not meant to understand their way of life, but when your apparent misunderstanding of how some things in life work start to impair your judgement, maybe you should take a step back and honestly reevaluate the situation. You might make a better decision. This goes for crazy haircuts, obnoxious tattoos and basically all under thought decisions that lead to unsatisfactory results.
I understand that most of the time, things don't work out as planned but it's better to have some semblance of plan than just hoping this half mo hawk doesn't affect your chances at the interview. These are just some things to consider. The decision is definitely yours ultimately. Just remember these things for the next time you see something is making you question yourself, safety, or sanity. If the aforementioned women would have done so maybe they would have enjoyed The Label instead of yelling with such fervor as I drove into the parking lot of the club that you couldn't afford in my fully paid off car, "You ain't got no limo!"
