Happy Hump Day!

Hey good people! I don't know how the weather is where you are but here in the STL the heat is legendary and record breaking. The heat is the kind that reminds me of the steamy scene in Spike Lee's Do The Right Thing. You know the one, the one with the ice cubes...right. I hope you get what you need to get right for today if not there's always the weekend.;-) Here's some music to set the mood on this steamy day...

Naturally Beautiful

This song is dedicated to my fellow Naturalistas. Our beauty is appreciated. Dead Prez, the revolutionary rappers who are bigger than Hip-Hop. Dedicated originally to all the moms but I am sure they won't mind me sharing with the rest of the sisters.

Sho Baraka- We Can Be More

I was visiting one of my fave sites, YOUTUBE and I stumbled across this artist. His name is Sho Baraka. This is my first time hearing this rapper and I like what I hear. This particular song is about love becoming more than lust. Starting, developing, and maintaining real relationships. SO without further adieu...Sho Baraka "We Can Be More" Let this be a mantra for your love life. (He has a new cd out to Liars & Lions.)

Independence Day or Independent Me?

It's the fourth of July. Some are reenacting the signing of the declaration, some are working, most are relaxing with family while feasting on grilled food, some are reeling about the inequalities and injustices of America. I am spending this day alone. Don't cry for me Argentina, this is my first taste of independent living. My parents and little sis are headed out of town. This leaves me here because I have to be adult and work. This is fine. This gives me time to myself. I have not been by myself on a holiday ever. Granted I am still young so there are plenty of lonely holidays to be had. So far so good though. I plan on watching tv, listening to loud music most of the day and then going to hang out with some friends before work beckons me in the morn. I'd be lying if I said I wasn't going to miss my fam but coming from a large family, there are few times being at home when silence is abundant. I am going to relish this time. So my INDEPENDENCE is being celebrated by me becoming a bit more independent and self reliant. Happy Bday America.
